King Charles urged to take ‘similar approach’ to Kate amid cancer treatment: ‘There is genuine concern’

The King could learn a thing or two from his daughter-in-law

| Updated:

King Charles has been urged to follow the lead of Princess Kate as the pair both continue treatment for cancer.

The royal family members announced their diagnoses earlier this year, just weeks apart.

Since then, with Kate ducking out of the spotlight entirely, the King had been taking a more relaxed approached to royal duties. However, in recent weeks, the monarch has appeared to be trying to insert himself back into his usual role.

And, after Camilla recently admitted her husband “won’t do what he is told”, Charles is being urged to take it slowly, much like his daughter-in-law.

King Charles’ cancer recovery: Time to slow down?

King Charles’ initial break from royal duties was short lived, as he quickly returned to appearing at events, including a Buckingham Palace garden party and an appearance at the Chelsea Flower Show.

The monarch has since taken a front-facing role at the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings and made a high-profile speech.

Another high-profile event, the Trooping The Colour ceremony, takes place this weekend (June 15). King Charles will be expected to inspect soldiers from the comfort of a carriage. The event marks the official birthday of the British sovereign.

There is support for the Princess of Wales and the approach she’s taken.

However, it appears that a large percentage of people are eager for the King to slow down. The Royal Record podcast host Svar Nanan-Sen discussed a recent poll of GB News viewers, who share these thoughts.

Svar explained: “I asked our GB News members if King Charles should slow down after Camilla’s health update. 74% [of those polled] voted yes, Charles should slow down. 21% voted no and 5% said they didn’t know. So three-quarters of our members would like to see the King take on fewer engagements during this period, and prioritise his health.”

‘Genuine concern’

He continued: “Something that I think we can also look at off the back of this poll is that there is support for the Princess of Wales and the approach she’s taken. We haven’t seen her conduct any royal engagements since December 2023. She said during her cancer announcement that she was going to prioritise her health. Maybe our viewers would like to see Charles take a similar approach.”

Royal correspondent Cameron Walker chimed in with his thoughts. He said: “I suppose the difference between the King and the Princess of Wales is the speculation and the horrible conspiracy theories online are all targeting the Princess of Wales rather than the King.

“I think it shows that there is genuine concern for our monarch. He’s in his seventies. We know he’s undergoing cancer treatment. His various staff members, and of course the Queen, have alluded to the fact that he is a bit of a workaholic. He doesn’t like sitting still.”

It comes after Queen Camilla made a comment about her husband’s health at her Queen’s Reading Room Festival. She reportedly told Jack Reacher author, Lee Child, that King Charles is “doing fine”. She also quipped that he “won’t do what he is told”.
