In an interview with The Mirror in March, Coleen recalled not being able to breathe while in a hotel room. The moment scared her so much, she decided to quit smoking after 40 years.

“I literally couldn’t walk a few feet without stopping to catch my breath. It was the scariest thing, feeling constantly winded,” Coleen said.

The singer revealed that a TV crew member told to see a doctor, who put her on antibiotics. However, Coleen insisted that “being a typical woman and mum, I kept saying I’d be fine”.

Later on, Coleen met up with her boyfriend Michael Jones outside a hotel and started to realise how serious it was when they were walking towards their room as she was “gasping” while trying to tell him that she “couldn’t breathe”.

“I had a full-scale panic attack and the more stressed I got and the more I cried, the less able I was to breathe,” she continued.

“I genuinely thought ‘I’m going to die in my hotel room, away from home.’ It was really frightening.”

Coleen feared she had lung cancer

Coleen visited the doctor and had chest X-rays and blood tests done. She feared she could have lung cancer but luckily the results came back clear.

Following the scare, she admitted that she felt the universe was telling her it was her “last chance”. The incident also made her realise she wants to be “around for as long as I can” for her three children.

While she doesn’t have lung cancer, Coleen was diagnosed with a low-grade skin cancer called carcinoma last year.
