Graham Norton on bad back and impact it’ll have on rest of his life: ‘There are no quick fixes’

Graham is hosting Eurovision again this year

Graham Norton – who is hosting the BBC’s coverage of Eurovision tonight (Saturday, May 11) – once opened up on the impact his bad back has had on his life.

The Irish star, 61, made the confession back in 2021.

During an interview with the Express three years ago, Graham opened up about the aches and pains he’s developed as he’s gotten older.

“There are no quick fixes,” he said in relation to his health, before describing his body as a “pretty ropey secondhand car”.

“Your body doesn’t know that it’s a milestone because it’s just getting on with it I suppose. There was a slow, slow thing that happened – I now have to worry about my back and go to the physio. Dull things like that,” he said.

The TV star then continued.

“If you’re a kid and you have something wrong with you, it gets mended,” he said at the time.

“When you’re 58, you need to keep doing those exercises for the rest of your life, or your back will be bad again,” he then added.

Adults over the age of 50 can be especially vulnerable to back problems, particularly lower back pain. This is usually mainly down to wear and tear of joints, spinal discs, and other structures.

Graham talks Eurovision

Last week, Graham appeared on The One Show to talk about the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo, Sweden.

During his appearance on the show, Graham revealed who would be acting as the UK’s spokesperson this year.

In previous years, the likes of Amanda Holden, AJ Odudu, Catherine Tate, and Rylan Clark have taken on the role.

This year, Joanna Lumley will be acting as spokesperson for the UK.

“How has she not done it before? It’s so perfect,” Graham gushed after revealing the news.
