Reality stars the Duggar family to adopt an 8-year-old boy

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have welcomed a new son into their family.

InTouch Weekly reports the parents of 19 have taken in the 8-year-old son of Michelle’s niece Rachel Hutchins.

Hutchins signed papers giving the couple custody because she is homeless, unemployed and unable to care for the child.

Court papers show the couple have been granted temporary custody of the boy, with a hearing scheduled for November to determine whether or not they will be able to adopt him.

‘’There’s a strong hope that once that happens they will be able to adopt him,’ a source told the magazine.

‘They didn’t have to think long about coming to the boy’s rescue. Helping this little angel was an answer to their prayers.’

The news comes a little over a year after it was revealed the Duggars’ eldest son Josh had molested four of his sisters when he was a teenager.

Hutchins is on probation for three years after being arrested this past April on felony charges of breaking and entering.

‘She’s a good person, but she’s made some bad decisions,’ said an insider.

She gave birth to her son as an unwed teenager.

The family has spent a good amount of time with Rachel and the young boy in the past, with Hutchins frequently posting photographs of them together on her Facebook page.

Michelle has also frequently talked about her desire to have another child, after she endured the heartache of giving birth to stillborn daughter in December 2011.

The timing of the adoption could however cause problems for the Duggar family.

It was revealed in May Josh had molested multiple minors when he was a teenager.

Then in July, TLC announced they would be cancelling the family’s show 19 Kids and Counting.

Josh was never charged with a crime as by the time police learned of the offenses the statue of limitations had passed, and his parents did not notify authorities in an official capacity at any point after learning about their son’s actions.

But the insider said the Duggars have no worries that this might hurt their chances of getting custody of the young boy come November.

‘They believe there should be no problems at the November hearing,’ said the insider.

‘Yes, many people were sickened by the way they covered up how Josh was a child molester, but Josh no longer lives in the house and the Duggars are certain their home is a safe environment for a child.’
