Becks works on his pecs – half-naked, on a piano – for a good cause!

David Beckham is participating in the 22 Million Pushups Challenge

| Updated:

David Beckham has done it on top of a piano in his underpants. Director Guy Ritchie has done it with his daughter on his back and Sons Of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam did it to rap music.

The three British celebs have all taken footage of themselves doing 22 press-ups over 22 days.

It’s all part of the 22 Million Pushups Challenge to raise awareness of the number of US military veterans who commit suicide daily after suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

David, 41, Guy, 48 and Charlie, 36, are just a few of the people who have taken to social media to show their support for the cause.

But the celebs have added little twists to their push-ups to make it interesting as they help the organisation #22KILL reach the goal of 22 million.

Father-of-four David kicked off his challenge by doing his push-ups from 44,000 in the air in the aisle of an airplane.

He posted the video on Instagram on Thursday writing: “So my lovely friend Mr Guy Richie [sic] the filmmaker and supreme athlete has nominated me to do 22 press ups consecutively for 22 days (and by the way his challenge was that I do my first lot at 44,000 feet as he knows I’m travelling).

“This isn’t one of his daily routines where he likes to teach u a lesson and beat you. It’s for a very good reason… 22 servicemen kill themselves post conflict…22 a day, basically 1 an hour.”

So far David has filmed himself over three days. But it is the video showing him doing 22 push-ups on a piano while wearing nothing but his underpants that has caused his fans to swoon.

In that video he jokes: “And as you can see, I’m 79 floors up. I’m lying on a piano and I thought I’d bring a pianist with me.

“I thought you’d like it. I thought you’d find it romantic. So it’s goodnight from us Mr Richie and beat that.”

The “pianist” in question is his best friend, sports agent David Gardner who is actress Liv Tyler’s fiancé.

Guy added a cute twist to one of his videos by doing his press-ups with his three-year-old daughter Rivka on his back.

Actor Jason Statham has also participated in the push-up challenge and he paid tribute to the Snatch director on his Instagram page, saying: “No one seems to be doing a better job than you [to raise awareness]. So I tip my hat to you, sir.”

He added: “This is about the veterans coming back from combat and having a very difficult time integrating back into society.

“They are taking their lives daily and it is a hideous mess and we need to do something about it.

“So if we can raise the awareness by doing a few push-ups, that is exactly what we are gonna do.”
