Fans praise Geri Horner’s touching tribute tune to George Michael

The star has released her first single in 12 years

Fans have praised singer Geri Horner for her “touching” tribute to late singer George Michael in her new single.

Angels In Chains, released on iTunes and Spotify on Monday, marks the former Spice Girl’s first solo track in 12 years.

It comes months after the death of her close friend and mentor, who died aged 53 on Christmas Day.

The star announced that the single is out now on her Twitter earlier today.

She wrote: “‘Angels in Chains’ – in loving memory of George Michael – is out now. Download on iTunes or stream on Spotify.”

The emotional ballad features the lyrics: “The brightest star burns half as long, who knows why the good die young?

“I wonder where you’ve gone… say goodbye, it’s time to heal the pain.”

It also references some of Michael’s biggest career hits, including Faith.

And fans could not be happier with it.

One wrote: “You sound better than ever @GeriHalliwell.”

Another added: “Loved the new single! Very honest and emotional. Bought and streamed.”

A third tweeted: “Lovely! Thank you for honoring George in this special way and supporting such an important charity he supported as well.”

“As a lifelong fan of George Michael, gotta say Geri and George’s backing singers you’ve done well. Truly moved by this xxx,” a fourth said.

Geri, 44, has spoken recently about her close bond with the former Wham! star and how he supported her in times of difficulty, offering his advice on music, men and style.

Speaking about how George’s death affected her Geri said: “He had such an impact on my life.

“I didn’t know what to do with all my feelings.

“When we have grief, you have to share it with each other. It was like a gift, it pushed me out the door.”

The former Spice Girl will appear on Chris Evans’s BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Tuesday to mark the song’s release.

Geri welcomed her baby boy, Montague, whose middle name is George after the pop star, into the world earlier this year.

The 44-year-old took to Twitter almost straight away to share the happy news.

She wrote: “Christian and I are delighted to announce our baby boy was born this morning weighing 7lbs 8oz.”

While it is Geri’s second child, following the birth of her daughter Bluebell Madonna in 2006, it is her first with hubby Christian Horner, who she married in 2015.

And it seems the star is busy enjoying motherhood, working on her music career and is even set to perform in a Spice Girl reunion this summer.

Geri will join Mel B and Emma Bunton and will perform a gig at Hyde Park in London in the next few months.
