Glee star Naya Rivera’s abortion secret

Actress bravely admits she hid abortion from her now husband Ryan Dorsey

Glee star Naya Rivera has revealed how her now husband Ryan Dorsey reacted when she admitted she’d aborted their unborn baby.

Nivera discovered she was pregnant just weeks after splitting from the actor in 2010.

The 29-year-old, who made the revelations in her book, ‘Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes and Growing Up’ decided to terminate the pregnancy to concentrate on her career.

And this week appearing on The Real show, Nivera admitted it was a choice she made without confiding her news to her then ex.

Nivera, who played singing cheerleader Santana Lopez on the show, said: ‘When I made that decision, I made it by myself, as I feel is the case for a lot of women, and I did not share it with Ryan at the time.

‘By the time we sort of reconnected, I was like, gosh, there’s a reason why you keep coming back in my life and we keep coming back together.

‘It was like, “I have to tell you something.”

Thankfully Rivera tells how Dorsey supported her decision.

He said to her: “In the short time that we dated, I wish that I could have done something to make you feel like you could have trusted me with that information because I would have loved to have been there with you.”‘

His understanding attitude made the actress realize how deep her feelings were for her future husband.

She said: ‘I think it was the kindest, best thing that any man could have ever said in that situation. It just made me love him that much more.’

She told People: ‘It was very scary to open up about everything.

“It’s not something a lot of people talk about, but I think they should.

‘I know some people might read it and say, “What the Hell?” But I hope someone out there gets something out of it.’

Naya said she had her abortion during her one day off from filming the hit Fox show.

The actress, who was previously engaged to rapper Big Sean, rekindled her relationship with 33-year-old actor Ryan and they ended up marrying in July 2014.

The couple are now parents to a son Josey, who was born in September last year.

In her memoirs she also opened up about the fact she suffered from an eating disorder as a schoolgirl.

Naya said: ‘By the time I was a sophomore, I started feeling that what had begun as a game had maybe gone too far. I just avoided food at all costs.

‘If my mom had packed a lunch for me, I’d either trash it or find some excuse to give it away.’

She told People: ‘I was so young and it just seemed to be the norm. Everyone was going through similar stuff.

‘I had no way of knowing if I was going through it worse. I was juggling my feelings and it makes me sad that there are girls still going through that 15 years after I went through it.’
