TV presenter Simon Thomas shares son’s heartbreaking tribute to his late mum

Eight-year-old lad is so brave

Presenter Simon Thomas has been trying to come to terms with his wife’s tragic death over the last week.

Since Gemma passed away at the end of November, just three days after she’d been diagnosed with leukaemia, the former Blue Peter presenter, 44, has brought his followers to tears by uploading a couple of cute family photos to Instagram.

And now, Simon has really tugged at the heartstrings by posting a picture that the couple’s young son Ethan drew of his beloved mum.

Above the illustration, eight-year-old Ethan added the tribute: “Best mum ever!!!”

And Simon is understandably proud of his lad, captioning the post: “One week on. One brave, amazing son.”

Fans of the TV star – who now works for Sky Sports – didn’t waste time in offering their support to the grieving boys.

One wrote: “You are amazing. My heart is breaking every day for you. I have a 6 yr old and can not even begin to imagine something like that happening. Brave, amazing boy! [sic]”

Another added: “Two beautiful boys. I’m [sure] Gemma will be looking down with lots of love and feeling very proud of you both.”

And a third said: “Be strong together and enjoy amazing memories. Best wishes.”

Just to emphasise how much Gemma meant to little Ethan, the following day Simon shared a picture of mum and son walking together through some fields.

It’s a beautiful picture, and while this one hasn’t been captioned, it speaks a thousand words.

Simon has previously spoken of his shock over his wife’s sudden death. After feeling unwell, Gemma reportedly visited her GP three times and was told to take tablets. But when her situation didn’t improve, she went to hospital.

There, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukaemia, and she died just three days later.

Shortly after, Simon shared his devastation with his followers on social media.

He tweeted: “Today I am crushed with indescribable pain. Just three days after falling ill with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, my dear wife Gemma passed away yesterday evening surrounded by her family and friends.

“If you are a prayer – pray for my boy Ethan. 8yrs, precious and in bits. Thank you.”
