What are viewers saying about The Durrells episodes on ITV?

And now, fans are calling on ITV to air the show’s other three seasons.

On Twitter, one viewer said hopefully: “@ITV will you be showing more series from #TheDurrells?”

Another tweeted: “Second series of #TheDurrells please @ITV, [I’m] hooked again.”

Someone else said: “I hope @ITV goes straight on to repeating series two of #TheDurrells next week. It’s been such a joy.”

A fourth agreed: “That’s what I was thinking. Why don’t they continue with season two next week? So disappointed it’s finishing tonight. Only decent thing on TV on a Sunday.”

No more after series four

Earlier this month, viewers rallied together on social media to call for ITV to make a new series of The Durrells.

The broadcaster commissioned a fourth in 2018 and it aired last year. But unfortunately for fans, it was confirmed as the last one.

‘More stories to be told’

In an interview with Digital Spy, he praised “brilliant” screenwriter Simon Nye and said there’s “so much material” there for him to work with.

He hinted we could see more of the Durrells on our screens one day, but admitted it was time to “give it some space”.

Josh told the publication: “There’s so much material, there will always be more material and Simon Nye is such a brilliant writer…

“I’m sure there are stories to be told but it just sort of feels like a really good time to give it some space now.”

The programme, which stars Keeley Hawes, is set on the Greek island of Corfu in 1935.

It’s based on the memoirs of Gerald Durrell, My Family and Other Animals.

Star Keeley previously said she thinks the show is a “real tonic” in difficult times.

In a chat with RadioTimes.com in June, she said: “So many people have said to me during this period… I mean, I’ve had messages from all sorts of people saying, ‘We’ve been re-watching it’.

“And that it’s just been a real tonic. Pure escapism.”
